Anarcho-punk band formed in 1982 in Newtownards, Co. Down
About Toxic Waste
The band was formed in 1982 in Newtownards, Co. Down, inspired by Crass's gig at the Anarchy Centre in Belfast. The lineup initially included Phil on bass, Patsy on vocals, Colin McKee (from Bangor) on drums (later replaced by Grub), and Marty on guitar. They aimed to push the DIY and anti-establishment ethos of punk further. Their first gig was at the West Winds Roadhouse in 1982, and they frequently performed in Bangor, Belfast, and the Ards area over the next two years, alongside Belfast's Stalag 17.
Toxic Waste toured Europe twice before disbanding in 1986. Roy Wallace went on to release Belfast in 1987 with Deno and Gary from DIRT, re-recording old Toxic Waste tracks along with some previously unreleased material. Marty and Roy then used their Toxic Waste experience to form Bleeding Rectum. The band briefly reunited in 1991 for a benefit tour, with Deno from DIRT taking on vocals.
