About Truth
Jim Armstrong and Kenny McDowell had returned to Belfast in 1968 after a long stint of touring and recording in the States with Them. Back in Belfast they formed Sk'Boo. In 1969 Armstrong and McDowell were persuaded to return to America by a Chicago based manager who knew them from their time with Them. So they left Sk'Boo and Belfast again and headed over to Chicago where they found a rhythm section, Curtis Bachman on bass and drummer Reno Smith, and they formed a new band called Truth.
Truth became a known draw in Chicago and surrounding areas. They found new management and got a deal with Epic records for a Truth LP. Having signed the deal, the band headed back to Belfast for a break in early 1971.But things unravelled when Smith headed off to Europe and then back to Chicago, Bachman to England with a girlfriend and their manager took the Epic advance money and left them high and dry. Unfortunately that was the end for Truth. Armstrong took a job in the Northern Irish Civil Service and played music part time in a number of Belfast bands including a reformed Sk'Boo, joined by McDowell in some of those bands. In 1977 Armstrong formed progressive rock band Light and released an album that included 2 Truth era songs.
