About Cry Before Dawn

Cry Before Dawn was a four piece rock band from Wexford in the Republic of Ireland. They had minor success in 1987 in the UK when they released their album Crimes of Conscience.

The lead single from the album was "Gone Forever", which was released in Ireland in February 1987. It was later re-released there and in the UK. The follow up single was "The Seed That's Been Sown" followed by "Girl In The Ghetto". The album was a success in Ireland and was critically acclaimed in the UK. The band made an appearance on the Wogan chat show performing "Gone Forever". Their success in Ireland did not transfer to the UK, although they supported Big Country on their 1989 UK tour.

In 1988 Cry Before Dawn contributed a new track, "Silly Dreams" to the soundtrack of the Irish film, The Courier. Their second album Witness For The World was recorded in Wales and mixed in Los Angeles, California by Greg Ledanyi, and was released to luke-warm reception in 1989. The lead single, "Witness For The World", reached number 67 in the UK Singles Chart in June 1989.

After a number of single-only releases the band eventually split in the early 1990s.

Brendan Wade subsequently teamed up with Paul Bell to form the Wild Swans. Their songs were moderately successful in Ireland, being released on Ritz Records and their own label. Their most successful release was "Dancing At The Crossroads", released to coincide with County Wexford's success in the 1996 All-Ireland hurling final.

Fellow band member Vince Doyle operates a Lexus dealership with his family and Pat Hayes lives in Stockholm, Sweden.

Just listening to Cry before Dawn again (after many many years) I still love them. The reason I went to listen to them again is because one of their songs sounds very similar to Kings of Leon, especially the lead vocals. Lovely memories

Remember them supporting Big Country during the Peace in our time tour and being one of the very few support bands that I have looked forward to seeing as well as the main act...
